Freelancer in Belgium

Question:
Hello!

I currently work as a freelancer in Belgium - I have a temporary contract for the supply of IT services to a company and I issue one invoice per month. I am registered for VAT and as a freelancer in Bulgaria. At the moment, I do not have an address registration in Beglia, it is not mandatory for the first 3/6 months.

I know that you have to pay according to the place where you spend 6 months of the year, I think the rule applies to both Belgium and Bulgaria.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:

Hello,

It is important where you actually live. You have correctly orientated that as an individual you are subject to the legislation of the country in which you have a minimum of 6 months. For the year in which you reside for at least 6 months in Bulgaria, you file an annual tax return in Bulgaria, and the deadline is April 30 of the following year. For the year in which you have resided in Belgium for a minimum of 6 months, you must comply with Belgian law. In this case, we advise you to consult with our colleagues or competent institutions in Belgium on how exactly you should carry out your business without having any problems with the Belgian authorities. Unfortunately, we do not have competencies outside Bulgaria and there is no way to help you. However, what we can tell you for sure is to consult in advance, not to wait for the end of the year. The sooner you clarify things, the better.

We hope we have been helpful to you.

Greetings!
