Can I receive maternity leave in Bulgaria if I lived in England?

Question:
Hello!
I have been in England for the past year. I am currently six months pregnant and I am in Bulgaria. Is there a possibility to get maternity here?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Hello,
In order to receive maternity benefit, you must meet the following conditions:
- have a minimum of 12 months of insurance for a general illness and maternity fund. This means that during your life (regardless of when) you have a total of 12 months of insurance experience either on an employment contract or as a self-insured person who was insured for a general sickness and maternity fund. Unfortunately, if during the time you were in England (assuming it was post-Brexit) you worked, that year does not count as such experience.
- at the beginning of the maternity leave, you must be insured for a general illness and maternity fund. Maternity leave starts 45 days before your due date. This means that to meet this condition you will need to be employed so that you can go on maternity leave 45 days before your due date.
We hope we have been helpful!
Greetings!
