Question:
Hello!
My question is about the subject of freelance (photography) - patent. I am employed on an employment contract and I want to develop my photography business. My question is about insurance, which option is better and is it possible - to self-insure and submit a declaration for the income of individuals or to remain on an employment contract and declare only my income from the freelance profession? And does the patent oblige me to self-insure?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Hello,
In both cases you have an obligation to submit an annual tax return for individuals, and in both cases you have an obligation to self-insure. The difference is in the way insurance and tax are determined.
In the case of self-employment, your insurance is calculated on the basis of the income received during the year, deducted by legally recognized expenses, and the tax is 10% of the received income, deducted by legally recognized expenses and the due insurance contributions.
With the patent, your insurance is calculated based on the income received during the year. Your tax is determined by the municipality and is different for each municipality.
The fact that you are on an employment contract affects to the extent that after your self-employment income is added to the insurance income from your employment contract, a number greater than the maximum insurance income can be obtained - BGN 3,400 on a monthly basis, which means that you will owe insurance contributions up to the amount of the maximum insurance income. You will not owe insurance contributions for the above.
We hope we have been helpful!
Greetings!
