Unemployment benefit at last place of employment in England.

Unemployment benefit at last place of employment in England.

Question:
Hello!
I am asking for advice on what to do for a person who has worked in England for several years and is now about to be laid off. The person wishes to look for a job in Bulgaria. Can he receive unemployment benefits and what is the procedure?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Hello,
You have two options before you:
1. To register on the labor exchange in England and at the moment you return to Bulgaria to transfer the receipt of compensation to Bulgaria
2. To register directly at the labor exchange in Bulgaria and receive your compensation here.
In principle, in order to receive compensation, you must have at least 12 months of work experience in the last 18 months. After Brexit, Bulgaria has concluded an agreement with Great Britain, which includes the recognition of seniority and unemployment benefits. Unfortunately, we still do not have practice in this direction and we cannot tell you what documents they will require. Our advice is to make a consultation with NSI employees to specify both the necessary documents that you must provide upon registration and, accordingly, secure from England, as well as the registration deadlines themselves (in principle, the registration deadline is up to 7 working days from termination of your employment contract) - https://www.noi.bg/index.php/aboutbg/1466-contactcenterbg
We hope we have been helpful!
Greetings!
