Hello!

I have 12 months of experience in Bulgaria, but I have been unemployed for about a year. I also have a one-year internship in Malta. What are the possibilities for me to receive maternity benefit, or could I only receive social maternity? I have no income at the moment.

Hello,

If you have at least 12 months of insurance in Bulgaria, you meet one of the conditions for receiving maternity benefit. If you do not have enough experience in Bulgaria, you can contact the NSSI for information on how we can certify your experience in Malta.

The other condition for obtaining maternity leave is that you are insured for "general illness and maternity" (AML) on the date of maternity leave (45 days before the due date). This can happen either if you are employed or if you are a company manager.

If you manage to meet both conditions, you will be able to receive maternity benefit. Otherwise, as you wrote yourself, you will be able to receive only social maternity.
