Can an unemployed person receive maternity leave?

Question:
Hello!
I am currently unemployed but have been employed for the past eight years. I want to start maternity insurance as a private individual. I am asking for information on what are the options for an unemployed mother-to-be.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Hello,
Unfortunately, you cannot get maternity insurance as a private person. The insurance must be tied to the laying of some work - either on an employment contract with a company or as a self-insured person (in your capacity as the owner and manager of a company or as a person registered as a self-employed person). If you choose to start a company or register as a self-employed person, in addition to paying insurance contributions, you will also have to report some real activity and, accordingly, income from the activity, on which taxes will also be due. If you do not report income, your social security contributions will not be recognized.
We hope we have been helpful!
Greetings!
