Rental income insurance

Rental income insurance

Question:
Hello!

I have a question about private health insurance. I am unemployed, I receive rent from a property that I have declared and based on it I am charged health insurance that is different from the minimum health insurance threshold. My question is, even though I pay rent-based health insurance, do I also have to pay unemployment insurance?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Hello,
Rental income is not insurance income - ie. you do not owe any social security contributions in relation to this income. Once you are unemployed, you only have an obligation to pay health insurance, based on the minimum insurance income for Bulgaria (in 2023, your monthly contributions for health insurance for the period during which you were unemployed must be BGN 31.20, for 2022 – BGN 28.40).
We hope we have been helpful!
Greetings!
