Reflection of expenses for electricity, water and telephone in the cost book
Reflection of expenses for electricity, water and
telephone in the cost book
Question:
How do we reflect the costs in the book?
Typically, the invoices for electricity and telephone come with a certain delay and there is always a discrepancy between the invoice date and the date of payment. For example, my invoice for a telephone was issued on 19.12.2014 and I paid it on 8.01.2015. Which date is correct to specify when reporting expenditure in the cost book.
Thank you in advance.
Answer:
Hello,
In the cost book you will reflect the invoice date and the payment will be reflected in the cash book. The actual cost is in December, because then the electricity is consumed. You can pay for the incurred debt (which is inherently estimated) and after 5 months (if you do not exclude the current in this case, but may also have late payment for other costs). The payment itself is a cash flow rather than an expense. The cost is set by the invoice, not the payment.
