Returning from abroad and obtaining maternity leave in Bulgaria

Returning from abroad and obtaining maternity leave in Bulgaria

Question:
Hello!
I have a complicated case related to motherhood and I can't find the information about it anywhere. I would be very grateful if you could help me. In the last six years I have lived abroad, but I had to return to Bulgaria. I have a seven month old child. Is it possible for me to get some kind of maternity? Before I went abroad, I had about a year and a half of work experience in Bulgaria.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Hello,
In order to receive maternity benefit, you must meet two conditions at the same time:
- have at least 12 months of general sickness and maternity insurance - as far as we understand from the information you have provided, you cover this condition.
- by the 45th day before the due date (this is also the moment when you go on sick leave for pregnancy and childbirth) you are insured for general illness and maternity - unfortunately this is not covered, as you were not in Bulgaria at that time , you were not assigned to an employment contract and you were not insured for general sickness and maternity.
We hope we have been helpful!
Greetings!
